Thom Thom Yorke

Quotes

"People are born with certain faces, like my father was born with a face that people want to hit."
- Thom Yorke

Why Is She Famous?

Thom Yorke is the lead singer of Radiohead, one of the world’s most innovative and respected bands.

Few rock singers of the '90s were as original and instantly unforgettable as Thom Yorke, as his band, Radiohead, became one of the biggest bands of the 21st century after making a career out of specializing in challenging and unpredictable rock. Born October 7, 1968, in Wellingborough, England, Yorke was born with a vision ailment: his left eye was paralyzed and shut until the age of six. He underwent a total of five operations; the last operation was botched and he almost lost all sight out of that eye (only after wearing an eye patch for a year was he able to see, albeit slightly). His family moved often since his father worked as a chemical engineering instruments salesman, and by his teens, he had turned to music as an inspiration, namely Elvis Costello, Queen, and the Beatles.

After his family finally settled down in Oxford, Yorke was sent to an all-boys school, where he first met future Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien and bassist Colin Greenwood, soon after discovering such '80s alternative bands as the Smiths, R.E.M., and the Cure. The seeds of what would eventually become Radiohead were planted at this point, as the trio jammed with a drum machine before replacing it with another friend, drummer Phil Selway, and inviting Greenwood's younger multi-instrument playing brother Jonny to join up, too. The group's original name was On a Friday, before being changed to Radiohead, which they'd swiped from the title of a song on Talking Heads' True Stories. By late 1991, the band was signed to Parlophone in the U.K. and Capitol in the U.S., as an EP, "Drill," came and went without much fanfare. 1993's full-length debut, Pablo Honey, appeared to be suffering the same fate, until American radio/MTV made a surprise hit out of the Nirvana-esque alt-anthem "Creep." The band's fan base grew considerably over the course of their next two releases, 1995's The Bends and 1997's OK Computer, the latter being voted Greatest Album of All Time in the British magazine Q shortly after its release. One of the world's top rock bands by this time, the group attempted to alienate their newly found Top 40 audience with their next release, 2000's abstract Kid A, but instead found it debuting at the top of the U.S. charts (despite the absence of a video or single being released from the album). While Radiohead remains his top priority, Yorke has also found the time to guest on other band's recordings as well.

Some of these "cameo" appearances include the songs "El President" by Drugstore (off the album White Magic for Lovers), a cover of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" with Sparklehorse, "Rabbit in Your Headlights" by UNKLE (Psyence Fiction), Björk's "I've Seen It All" (Selmasongs), and PJ Harvey's "This Mess We're In" (Stories from the Cities). Yorke has also appeared as part of the ad hoc alternative supergroup Venus in Furs for the soundtrack to the 1998 glam rock film Velvet Goldmine, lending his vocals to the tracks "2HB," "Ladytron," and "Bitter-Sweet." In May 2006, he unleashed a surprise by announcing an imminent solo album on Radiohead's weblog. The Eraser, made with extensive assistance from Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, was released on XL in July.

Paula Abdul

Quotes

"When people expect me to go right, I'll go left. I'm unpredictable."
- Paula Abdul

Why Is She Famous?

Paula Abdul was once one the most famous pop stars in the world. Among her biggest successes were "Straight Up", "Forever Your Girl", "Rush Rush", and "Opposites Attract". She is also one of Hollywood's most important choreographers, a former LA Lakers cheerleader, and has recently made a comeback as the nice judge on American Idol.

Paula Julie Abdul was born June 19th, 1963, in San Fernando, California. The daughter of Harry and Lorraine Abdul knew early on that she wanted to dip her feet into dance. The youngest of two daughters, Paula's love for dance originated from the film, Singing In The Rain, whose star, Gene Kelly, was her idol. A student at Van Nuys high school, Paula applied her choreography skills (thanks to dance lessons from age 9) as head of the cheerleading squad. She graduated in 1980, and shimmied her way to Cal State-Northridge, as a TV and radio student. But as her heart was truly in dance, Paula took her LA Lakers Cheerleading gig as a full-time job, after dropping out of college. While a Laker Girl, Paula was promoted to choreographer after having shaken her pompoms for some time, which is where the Jackson Five spotted her. Her dancing skills not only revolutionized the style of cheerleading as an industry, but it also impressed the Jacksons, who hired her to choreograph their "Torture" video. Paula worked with the Jackson family yet again, as she also choreographed Janet's video for "Nasty" (and danced in it as well). Other '80s pop stars such as ZZ Top, Debbie Gibson, INXS, and George Michael also enlisted the help of the dynamic dancer. - But her choreography didn't end with music. With an acting credit to her name (she appeared in the 1981 film Junior High School), Paula's skills were also used to choreograph scenes in movies such as Coming to America, Dragnet, Can't Buy Me Love, Big, Bull Durham, The Doors, and subsequently Jerry Maguire and American Beauty, as well as television shows such as The Tracey Ullman Show. Paula wasn't destined to simply be a behind-the-scenes force in music and film. She networked her way to making a demo tape, and convinced Virgin America to cut her a record deal. Her debut single, "Knocked Out" was released in 1988, and she followed it up with the release of her debut album, Forever Your Girl. Both saw lukewarm results, until the single "Straight Up" was released in 1989. In 2000, Abdul’s Paula Abdul: Greatest Hits CD was released by Virgin Records (with whom Abdul was already no longer affiliated). It featured all of the "hit" singles as well as other noteworthy tracks. The song "Bend Time Back 'Round" had previously been heard only on the 1992 soundtrack for the hit television series Beverly Hills 90210. The album was not a commercial success, however it managed to sell more than one million copies worldwide. In 2000, Abdul co-wrote "Spinning Around", a dance-pop track intended to be the lead single off her new album. The album never materialized and "Spinning Around" was given to Kylie Minogue as a single. The song became highly successful and re-launched Minogue's career, as it was intended to do for Abdul, and reached #1 in numerous countries. During the 3rd season of the British reality TV competition The X Factor in 2006, Abdul appeared as a guest judge during the early audition rounds of the programme. Bravo announced a reality television series following Abdul through her day-to-day life, called Hey Paula. The series is produced by Scott Sternberg Productions and debuted on June 28, 2007. Paula's behavior as depicted on the show has been described as 'erratic'. Allegations arose again in January 2007 when videos circulated on the Internet of Abdul appearing to sway in her chair and slur her speech during a set of interviews. Abdul's publicist attributed this to fatigue and technical difficulties during the recording of the interviews.

Lee Ann Womack

Quotes

"I'm not afraid to go out on a limb, style-wise or with lyrics. I don't ever want to be afraid to cut those types of songs because radio might not play it."
- Lee Ann Womack

Why Is She Famous?

Her song "I Hope You Dance" was a chart topper across country and pop charts. She is currently one of country music's brightest and best selling stars, thanks to her mix of contemporary and traditional country sounds.

Lee Ann Womack was primed to become a country star. Even in her days growing up in Jacksonville, Texas, she was surrounded by country music, since her father was a part-time radio disc jockey. Mr. Womack would take his daughter to the studio, and used her assistance in picking out records to play, from Bob Wills to Glen Campbell, which were her favorites. Even as a child, her interests lay in country music and the Nashville sound. She spent her spare time listening to music from the Grand Ole Opry on her stereo, and opted to take a trip to Music Row in Nashville, rather than going on her senior trip. Lee Ann began her music studies -- consisting of both country and bluegrass -- at South Plains Junior College, in Levelland, Texas. She had the opportunity to practice as a musician, as a member of the school band, Country Caravan. She continued her education at Nashville's Belmont University, where she enrolled in the music business program. The business route of music gave Lee Ann the opportunity to work for MCA Records, as an intern in the A&R department. Gaining experience in both the musical and behind-the-scenes view of the music industry, Lee Ann was ready to take on Nashville in 1990, by settling down there. While a university student at Belmont, Lee Ann was not only studying and working as an intern, she also became the wife of musician/singer Jason Sellers -- who was also working on his country music career -- and mother to their daughter, Aubrey. But Lee Ann wasn't destined to be a housewife, and she didn't let her role as a mother stop her from following her dream. After several years off the scene, she took her daughter along for the ride of distributing demos throughout Nashville, going from door to door. In 2008, Womack announced plans for a new single for the first time in three years, once again on MCA Nashville. "Last Call" was released on June 30, 2008. It served as the lead-off single to Womack's seventh studio album, Call Me Crazy, which was released on October 21, 2008. Call Me Crazy, produced by Tony Brown, is said to be a very dark album with plenty of songs about drinking and losing love. The new album will also feature a duet with George Strait titled "Everything But Quits." The set also features a re-make of the George Strait classic, "The King of Broken Hearts," which first appeared on the Pure Country soundtrack. One track on the set, "The Bees," features vocals from Keith Urban.

Celine Dion is expecting twin boys

The 'Think Twice' singer ' who already has a nine-year-old son Rene-Charles with husband Rene Angelil ' has confirmed she will be welcoming two more sons into her family later this year.

In a statement on her website, he spokesman said: 'Celine first announced the upcoming new additions to the Angelil-Dion family back in May, and now she just revealed that she is expecting twin boys! Congratulations to the happy family!'

The 42-year-old songstress has had an emotional few months as she tried to have more children with her 68-year-old spouse.

Last August the couple announced they were expecting a child following a successful round of IVF, but in November her spokesperson confirmed the pregnancy had failed.

Just weeks ago Celine hinted there was some "good news" to come about a second pregnancy.

She said: "Well we're crossing our fingers. We're waiting for good news hopefully. I don't want to talk about it so much because I'm superstitious, but I know people have been very wonderful for us and praying for us. Right now we are crossing our fingers, we hope for the best and I can't wait to give people good news."

The French-Canadian star deliberately didn't want to release information about her bump until she was sure she was pregnant.

She added: "Once you live in showbusiness and everything spreads out so quick and every pregnancy you have to wait three months to make sure it's all ok and it's nerve racking. We're not getting any younger and you always think it's your last chance, you're last try."

Enrique Iglesias gets sent 'disgusting' gifts by his fans

The 'Hero' hitmaker ' who has been dating tennis ace Anna Kournikova for years ' has revealed some of his admirers have no limits in what they are prepared to do to get his attention.

He said: 'A few years ago I got a really strange gift from a fan ' it was really disgusting, a used Tampax! That's the strangest thing!'

Although unusual mail does nothing for him, the 35-year-old singer has revealed what he does find attractive in a woman ' independence.

He said: ' think independence in a woman is a great quality. Someone who you know doesn't necessarily depend on you. I know women or men that need someone to lean on.

't's good to be independent and strong.'

However, the chart-topping star ' who is the son of iconic crooner Julio Iglesias ' couldn't date girl who hampered his music.

He said: 'You need to be with someone who doesn't get in the way of what you love. If you love your job, someone that doesn't create any type of barrier between that. That, for me, is a big turn-off.'

Cheryl Cole is out of intensive care

The 'Fight for This Love' singer has been discharged from the Hospital for Tropical Diseases at University College London, where she has been receiving treatment for malaria, and is now being cared for at a private clinic.

A statement said: 'Cheryl Cole came out of intensive care and has left UCLH. She has now been transferred to a private clinic where she will remain for her recovery.'

Rumoured boyfriend Derek Hough is said to be distraught Cheryl caught malaria while on vacation with him in Tanzania, and is blaming himself for taking her to the African country on a short romantic break.

Malaria ' which attacks the body's liver and blood flow ' is spread by mosquitoes.

Derek's stepfather Aaron Nelson said: 'Derek feels guilty. He is very distressed about all of this.

'He feels he has done this to her. He rang his mom in tears. He organised the holiday as something wonderful. For it to end up like this is terrible. He feels dreadful.'

Cheryl has been told by 'X Factor' judge Simon Cowell to take off as much time as she needs and to not return to the audition stage of the competition until she is better.

Nicole Scherzinger

Quotes

"To me, a Pussycat Doll is fearless but also vulnerable. We're strong, but we like to play too."
- Nicole Scherzinger

Why Is She Famous?

Nicole Scherzinger parlayed her success on Popstars into a lucrative and star-making career as one of the six members of the Pussycat Dolls.

Nicole Elikolani Prescovia Scherzinger was born on June 29, 1978, in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is of Hawaiian, Filipina and Russian descent, and comes from a large family of entertainers -- her mother, Rosemary, was a professional hula dancer, and her grandmother was a respected Mariachi singer. When Nicole was just 6 years old, her military father was transferred to Louisville, Kentucky, where she began attending performing arts schools, pursuing an education that would persist throughout her adolescence. As a teenager, she was the first runner-up at the 1996 Kentucky State Fair's Coca-Cola Talent Classic contest, and she appeared in several plays at Louisville's Actors Theater. Nicole attended Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, where she majored in Theater and minored in Dance. After appearing in every play put on by the school's theater troupe, Nicole realized that she wanted to spend the rest of her life working as a performer. She made money on the side by working as a model and appearing in several local ad campaigns. It was during her time at Wright State that Nicole was contacted by Travis Meeks, the lead singer of Louisville-based band Days of the New. Meeks wanted her to perform on a few songs with the group, and she agreed -- a decision that forced her to drop out of school for a short period. After recording several demos with Meeks, Nicole returned to Wright State, but it wasn't long before she was asked to record an entire album's worth of material and even go on tour.

In May 2003, Scherzinger joined The Pussycat Dolls burlesque troupe, who were being re-cast as recording artists. She had first seen them performing on The Late Show with David Letterman in November 2002, where Carmen Electra sang "Big Spender" from the Bob Fosse musical Sweet Charity. In 2006, Scherzinger said "It caught my eye because I’d played Velma Kelly in Chicago in college." The Pussycat Dolls now have world-wide status as a popular singing group; their Billboard top five hits "Don't Cha", "Buttons", "Wait a Minute" and "Stickwitu" and the top 20 hit "Beep". The album PCD went double-platinum in 2006. Scherzinger sang nearly all lead vocals on the album, with Melody Thornton and Carmit Bachar also contributing.

In 2006, Scherzinger toured with the Pussycat Dolls for their album promotion. It was revealed in 2006 that the Dolls are salaried employees of Interscope Records, giving the label a high level of control over the group's finances and business decisions. The group is planning to release their second album in 2008, titled Double the Trouble. Scherzinger's PCD nickname is "Lead Doll" or "Queen Doll".

Following the popularity of "Don't Cha" and the continuing rise of the Pussycat Dolls, Scherzinger recorded a series of duets or "guest appearances", predominantly with male vocalists. In 2005, she appeared on recordings by Shaggy, Vittorio Grigolo, and Will Smith. The following year she sang on Avant's single "Lie About Us" and P. Diddy's hit "Come to Me" (which she also co-wrote). Other appearances are listed in her discography.

Scherzinger briefly appeared in the movie Chasing Papi as the real Miss Puerto Rico even though she is half Filipino, quarter Hawaiian and quarter Russian, whose appearance as a candidate was impersonated by the character of Roselyn Sanchez, with whom Scherzinger shared a physical resemblance. She also had a small role in the 2003 film Love Don't Cost a Thing. Nicole has recently done a commercial for The CW Network promoting their 2007-2008 Fall Primetime schedule – Get Into The CW.

Vanessa Hudgens

Quotes

"I hope all my fans can learn from my mistake and make smart decisions. But I wouldn't have been able to get through it if it wasn't for my family, friends, and fans, who supported me all along the way."
- Vanessa Hudgens

Why Is She Famous?

With her perky demeanor and show-stopping talent, Vanessa Hudgens has deftly established herself as an up-and-coming actor/singer worth watching. Unlike some of her contemporaries, Vanessa certainly has the chops to back up her increasingly high profile.

Vanessa Anne Hudgens was born on December 14, 1988, in Salinas, California. While still a toddler, Vanessa and her younger sister, Stella, were uprooted and moved to San Diego. Vanessa's passion for music was borne early on, and undoubtedly stems from the presence of her grandparents, who were actively involved in the big-band scene in the 1930s. By the time she was just 8 years old, Vanessa successfully petitioned her parents to allow her to try out for a whole host of local musicals (including The King and I, Cinderella and Evita). It quickly became evident that Vanessa had a real gift for both performing and singing, and she consequently decided (along with her parents, of course) to spend some time in London studying drama and music.

Upon her return from the United Kingdom, Vanessa decided that her best shot at forming a bona fide career in show business involved a move to Los Angeles. There's little doubt that Vanessa would still be toiling on local stages were it not for the support of her family, who abandoned their comfortable lives in San Diego to support the burgeoning star. Vanessa immediately dove into the grueling auditioning scene, trying out for anything and everything she was allowed access to. Her hard work paid off in 2002, when she landed one-off guest spots on a pair of television shows: the sitcom Still Standing and the crime drama Robbery Homicide Division. A year later, Vanessa found herself cast opposite fellow up-and-comers Evan Rachel Wood and Nikki Reed in Thirteen, a drama revolving around the reckless exploits of several teenagers. She followed that up with a role in the 2004 live-action adaptation of Thunderbirds (opposite no less than Ben Kingsley), and popped up on TV shows such as The Brothers Garcia and Quintuplets. But it wasn't until she successfully auditioned for the part of Gabriella Montez in the Disney Channel movie High School Musical that Vanessa finally began to receive the recognition she so richly deserved.

After blowing away the producers with a stirring rendition of Robbie Williams' "Angels" during her audition, Vanessa soon found herself starring alongside folks like Zac Efron and Ashley Tisdale in the smash hit High School Musical (2006). The film, along with its soundtrack, quickly became a sensation among the tweener set, propelling Vanessa to household-name status within the ranks of such viewers. Vanessa soon found herself being offered spots on commercials for high-profile companies like Old Navy and Blockbuster, and the actress even won a Teen Choice Award for Choice Chemistry with costar Zac Efron. Buoyed by her massive High School Musical success, Vanessa decided the time was right to fulfill her lifelong dream of recording an album of her own, and consequently signed with Hollywood Records in 2006. Hoping to take advantage of the heat surrounding her, Vanessa worked day and night on the album for two months. On September 26, 2006, V was released to monstrous success. It premiered at No. 24 on the U.S. pop album charts and sold 34,000 copies. The album spawned a hit single, "Come Back to Me," and Vanessa spent the latter part of 2006 touring in support of the disc (first as an opener for The Cheetah Girls, then as part of the High School Musical concert series). In addition to her relentless touring schedule, Vanessa found time to make a series of appearances on the popular Disney Channel show The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, as well as a return to High School Musical territory with a starring role in the 2007 sequel.

Lady GaGa

Quotes

Some artists are working to buy the mansion or whatever the element of fame must bear, but I spend all my money on my show.
- Lady GaGa

Why Is She Famous?

She mounted a solo career several years later, releasing her chart-topping debut single, "Just Dance," in early 2008. Her debut album, The Fame, was issued in the United States later that year, and its Grammy-nomianted success paved the way for a U.K. release in early 2009.

Joanne Stefani Germanotta (born March 20th, 1986 in New York, United States), best known by her stage name Lady GaGa, is an American singer-songwriter and dance-pop/electronica musician signed to Interscope Records. Lady GaGa was born in March 1986, in New York to an Italian family. She attended Convent of the Sacred Heart School and, as a little girl, she remembers singing into a plastic tape recorder to the likes of Cyndi Lauper and Michael Jackson. By age 4, Lady Gaga had taught herself to play the piano by ear, and when she was a teenager she penned her first song. When she was just 14, she was playing open mic nights at New York’s Bitter End, and by the age of 17 she had been one of 20 kids in the world to get early admission to Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. Lady Gaga started working the local Lower East Side club scene, performing then-hits like “Beautiful Dirty Rich” while donning her unique stage outfits. When she was 20 she started working for Interscope Records and was busy writing songs for other musical groups, such as The Pussycat Dolls. Lady GaGa also submitted 2 songs to Britney Spears with only one being used as a bonus track, “Quicksand”. On April 8, 2008, she released her debut single, “Just Dance”, which went on to reach number one in Australia, Canada, the US and the UK.

Neil Young

Quotes

Remember when you used to watch TV in the '60s and you'd see Perry Como in a cashmere sweater? That's what rock'n'roll is becoming. It's your parents' music.
- Neil Young

Why Is She Famous?

The acoustically based Prairie Wind appeared in the fall, with the concert film Heart of Gold, based around the album and directed by Jonathan Demme, released the following year. 2006 also saw the release of the controversial CD/DVD Living with War, a collection of protest songs against the war in Iraq that featured titles such as "Let's Impeach the President," "Shock and Awe," and "Lookin' for a Leader." Restless, prolific, and increasingly self-referential, Young issued Chrome Dreams II late in 2007.

Neil Percival Young OM (born November 12, 1945, Toronto, Ontario) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, guitarist, pianist and film director. Young has directed (or co-directed) a number of films using the pseudonym Bernard Shakey, including Journey Through the Past (1973), Rust Never Sleeps (1979), Human Highway (1982), and Greendale (2003). He is also an outspoken advocate for environmental issues and small farmers, having co-founded the benefit concert Farm Aid, and in 1986 helped found The Bridge School, and its annual supporting Bridge School Benefit concerts, together with his wife Pegi.

Neil Young was born in Toronto to sportswriter and novelist Scott Young and Rassy Ragland, who had moved to Toronto from their family home of Manitoba to pursue a sport journalism career. Neil spent his early years in the small country town of Omemee, in southern Ontario. A bout of polio at the age of 6 left him with a weakened left side, and he still walks with a slight limp. Although a new tour had been planned to follow up on the success of Harvest, it became apparent during rehearsals that Danny Whitten could not function due to drug abuse. On November 18, 1972, shortly after he was fired from the tour preparations, Whitten was found dead of an overdose. Young described the incident to Rolling Stone’s Cameron Crowe in 1975, " were rehearsing with him and he just couldn't cut it. He couldn't remember anything. He was too out of it. Too far gone. I had to tell him to go back to L.A. 'It's not happening, man. You're not together enough.' He just said, 'I've got nowhere else to go, man. How am I gonna tell my friends?' And he split. That night the coroner called me from L.A. and told me he'd ODed. That blew my mind. Fucking blew my mind. I loved Danny. I felt responsible. And from there, I had to go right out on this huge tour of huge arenas. I was very nervous and . . . insecure."

The album made in the aftermath of this incident, Time Fades Away (1973), has often been described by Young as "my least favourite record," and it is, in fact, one of only two of Young’s early recordings that has yet to be re-released on CD (The other being the soundtrack album Journey Through the Past). The album was recorded live over a tour where Neil struggled with his voice and called David Crosby and Graham Nash to help perform the music. The tour was also notable as Linda Ronstadt began touring as the opening act for the Time Fades Away tour. Time Fades Away occupies a unique position in Young’s discography as the first of three albums known collectively as the "Ditch Trilogy," and has also been referred to as the "Doom Trilogy" by some writers.

Using a barn on his Northern California ranch as a studio, he rapidly recorded Ragged Glory with Crazy Horse, whose guitar riffs and feedback driven sound showed his new admirers that he could still cut it. Young then headed back out on the road with LA punk band Social Distortion and alternative rock elder statesmen Sonic Youth as support, much to the consternation of many of his old fans. Yet the influence of Sonic Youth could be clearly heard on the accompanying home video and live album, Weld, which also included a bonus CD entitled Arc, a single 35-minute-long collage of feedback and guitar noise that Neil included, evidently at the suggestion of Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore. Arc was later sold separately.

In 1998, Young shared the stage with the rock band Phish at the annual Farm Aid concert, and later offered them an opportunity to headline both nights of the Bridge School Benefit concert. Phish passed on Young's offer and also declined Young's later invitation to be his backing band on a 1999 tour. Young spent the latter portion of 2004 giving a series of intimate acoustic concerts in various cities with his wife, Pegi, who is a trained vocalist. On March 31, 2005, Young was admitted to a hospital in New York for treatment for a brain aneurysm. He was treated successfully by a minimally invasive neuroradiological procedure. Prior to undergoing the procedure, he wrote the first eight songs of a new album, Prairie Wind, in Nashville, with session musicians that included regular Young sideman Ben Keith on lap and pedal steel guitars. The last two songs on the album were written after his aneurysm procedure. Many of the songs, such as "Fallin' Off the Face of the Earth," seem to be inspired by Young's brush with mortality, the recent death of his father (who suffered senile dementia), as well as a connection with his Manitoba roots. Two days after the procedure, Young was forced to cancel a scheduled appearance on the Juno Awards telecast in Winnipeg when the area where the surgeons did his procedure (via the femoral artery) suddenly began to bleed. Young finally was able to return to Winnipeg in 2006 with Crosby, Stills and Nash. It was announced January 16, 2007 that the next release in the Archives Performance Series project would be from January 19, 1971 where Neil performed at Toronto's Massey Hall. The new release, titled Live at Massey Hall 1971 was released March 13. In a large garage underneath his Woodside ranch, Young also maintains a large private collection of classic Detroit-made American cars.

Carla Bruni

Quotes

"I don't know what the fuss is about. There are 7,000 girls."
- Carla Bruni

Why Is She Famous?

Carla Bruni is one of the world's most photographed models, and one of the most financially successful. Her string of high-profile romances with Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton and Donald Trump also made her a regular in gossip columns.

Carla Bruni Tedeschi was born the 23rd of December 1967, in Turin, Italy. The heiress of a tire manufacturing fortune from her native city, Carla probably didn't even need to pursue the lucrative modeling career she presently has, considering the fortune that awaited her. Nonetheless, the multitude of fashion shows and modeling shoots she has appeared in has led to her inclusion in BusinessAge's list of the 20 highest-paid models in 1998. But like most models that have made it huge in the modeling industry, Carla didn't originally aspire to become a model. After relocating to Paris at age 5, Carla moved to Switzerland to study at a boarding school. She finally returned to Paris, where her brother Virginio's girlfriend encouraged her to pursue a modeling career. Pretty much convinced, Carla dropped her Arts and Architecture classes at the University of Paris at the age of 19, to be a full-time model. Signed with City Models in Paris, Carla has since become one of the fashion industry's most famous faces (not to mention bodies). Her whirlwind climb to the top started out when Paul Marciano, the President and Creative Director of GUESS? Inc., saw a picture of her face in a stack of pictures of aspiring models. The same man who later discovered Shana Zadrick and Josie Maran knew Carla had what it takes to become a star. By the 1990s, Bruni was among the 20 highest-paid fashion models, earning $7.5 million a year. While modeling, Bruni dated Eric Clapton, then Mick Jagger. On 11 April 2008, a 1993 nude photograph of Bruni sold at auction for US$91,000 (£46,098) — more than 60 times the expected price.
